UNESCO delegates will visit the tomb of Sheikh Safi-ad-din Ardabili, eponym of the Safavid dynasty, for its world heritage registration.

Iran hopes the historically significant features of Iran's northwestern province of Ardabil makes it qualified for registration by UNESCO's World Heritage List.

The UNESCO delegate will travel to Iran in July in a bid to inspect the condition of the site for possible inclusion in the next year's world heritage registration.

The Safavid dynasty was founded by Sheikh Safi-ad-din Is'haq Ardabili (1252-1334.) He was of Persian and Kurdish background.

The Safavids were an Iranian Shia dynasty that ruled Iran from 1502 to 1722. The dynasty established Shia Islam as the official religion of their empire, marking one of the most important turning points in the history of Islam.

Iran submitted its request for registration to UNESCO in February.

The ancient bazaar of Tabriz is Iran's other offering to UNESCO. It is one of the oldest and largest bazaars in the Middle East and remains the largest covered bazaar in the world.

Located in the centre of the city of Tabriz, northeastern Iran, the spectacular structure consists of several sub-bazaars, including the Amir Bazaar (gold and jewelry), the Mozzafarieh Bazaar (carpets), a shoe bazaar, and more for a variety of other goods.
